Collegiate School

Pastoral Care

we are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare, wellbeing and academic progress of each student.

Collegiate School's philosophy is quite simple; happy children do well. This makes the provision of pastoral care of great importance in the school. At the very heart of this provision is the House system. Four co-educational, 11- 18 Houses provide the structure through which we monitor and support the development, well-being and happiness of all of our young people. These Houses are organised and led by the Head of House - a member of the teaching staff who has ultimate responsibility for the happiness and progress of all in their House.

The programme of House competitions and the spirit engendered are very valuable aspects of a Collegiate education and the Houses - ALDINGTON, KING'S, DOLPHIN and ROUNDWAY - meet together each week to share successes and challenges.

Each student is assigned to a House Tutor group, in which they register twice a day. This is a vital time for messages and communications and the Tutors have day-to-day responsibility for their tutees’ welfare and academic progress, working with the Head of House and parents to provide coherent guidance and support to each student. The Tutor is the day-to-day port of call for parents and strong, supportive relationships are built at this level.

Every year the new Year 7s are tutored by the Assistant Head of House while they settle into their new learning environment.

Each House has a common room in which Years 7 to 11 can relax at break times and lunches. The Sixth Formers share the Sixth form Centre and Café.
